Vehicle fires are one of the most common causes of burns in the United States. On average one occurs every 96 seconds. There are many ways a car can ignite into flames. Potential sources include flammable materials like gasoline and oil, combustibles like upholstery, electrical equipment that can short circuit, batteries that can leak, hot exhaust systems and air bag detonators; all can all cause fires in automobiles. In Milwaukee on July 19 2009 a van rolled over and burst into flames. A mother and her two children were trapped inside. Luckily off duty fire fighters brothers John and Joel Rechlitz as well as Police Lieutenant Mark Wroblewski were on the scene when it happened. With their help and others all three people were pulled from the burning wreckage. The mother and one of her children have no serious injuries, unfortunately, one of the children was badly burned on over 30 percent of his body and was rushed to Children’s Hospital in the area. He is still in critical condition. http://www.todaystmj4.com/news/local/51180922.html

Last month in Hermozilllo, Mexico a horrible fire broke out at a daycare center. 44 infants and toddlers were killed and many more badly injured. According to witnesses, no smoke detectors or sprinklers went off and one of the exits was bolted shut and could not be opened. Rescuers broke down walls to rescue the children. One man even rammed his truck into the wall three times to open a hole. Investigators are still trying to figure out why the fire spread so quickly throughout the building. Some of the surviving children were brought to Sacramento by Mexican authorities and are being treated at Shriners Hospitals for Children Northern California.
