As most people know, General Motors has recently declared bankruptcy. There were many objections to GM’s bankruptcy reorganization. Consumers were outraged that GM was not going to assume liability for future product liability claims. Nine state attorney generals and various consumer groups took action immediately. They argued that if GM were allowed to ignore future product defect claims, consumers would be losing rights that they now enjoy and that would violate Bankruptcy code. As a result GM has issued a document, a promise they filed with the courts, to assume responsibility for future product liability claims. This is great news for lemon law.
